Why don’t Christian read the Bible?

Share

I came to the conclusion some years ago that most Christians I’d met haven’t got a clue what the Bible says.  I’ve had them tell me I was lying about this or that on many, many occasions when I was totally accurate as to what it said.

I went looking for a source for this.  This is the best I can find:  http://healtheland.wordpress.com/2008/01/23/less-than-10-of-professed-christians-have-read-the-entire-bible/

I’d love to find a better source, but that is a Christian group’s blog and it seems to fit what I’ve seen myself.  They really don’t have a clue what it says.  That warning label is snarky, but other than it saying it’s fiction I don’t see what there is to even argue.

So why don’t they read it?  Seriously, I’d love to know the answer.  If I had a book that I really believed was God himself talking to us, I’d read it.  Heck, I did read it, and I was already convinced from Sunday School that it was a steaming pile of crap.  It only took around a month.

Do they really not believe it?  Would they rather not have their nice neat picture of what it says crushed?  Are they afraid to look at it without guidance?

I’d love some comments here.  I personally really don’t get it.
